Antigua Day 5 - Rum Tasting and a Seven Course Dinner

Ran into a chum with a bottle of rum

and we wound up drinkin' all night – Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes (Jimmy Buffet)

I woke up and met some of my co-agents for breakfast at the buffet.  I was so pleased to see another omelet station.  They also had a large spread of options including French Toast!  You may not know this about me, but I absolutely LOVE French Toast, the gooier, the better.  However, I despise making it, I also don’t keep bread in the house.  No bad day starts with French Toast, so I was excited to see what was in store of us today.

Our first activity was to take a tour of Pineapple Beach Club, which was right across the road from our resort.  While staying at The Verandah, Guests do have the option to get on a golf cart and enjoy their amenities.  Pineapple Beach Club gives off a very social vibe and is another adult-only, all-inclusive resort. It’s much less spread out than The Verandah, but still has plenty of food, pools, and bars.  I know there are a lot of Disney people reading this, for those Walt Disney World people, as soon as we got to the resort rooms, I immediately thought, this looks exactly like Caribbean Beach Resort, I guess the Disney Imagineers did their research!

We returned from the resort tour and opted to eat at Sails & Tales which is a dining location at The Verandah.  Sails & Tales is a seafood bar and grill, but don’t worry If you are not a seafood eater, I don’t eat seafood and I had plenty of options to choose from!  I ended up with a delicious, breaded chicken sandwich.  We also had lunch time entertainment with the resort cats.  We discovered that one of the cats is pregnant, so we gave her lots of pets of attention.

After we were done eating, we went to enjoy the main pool which was right by my room.  It was such a warm day that the mixture of the pool and the poolside cocktails were a perfect combination.  We discovered that I could get my Passion Fruit tequila cocktail that I had at lunch and LOVED the day prior, and I was very happy about that.  If you haven’t picked up on it yet, I really love Passion Fruit flavored things.

Later that evening, we went over to another one of the Elite Island properties, Hammock Cove.  We would get a full tour of the resort tomorrow, but tonight, we were there to experience one of the special dinner offerings – a 7-course meal.  This special dining experience only occurs once a week and the menu rotates.  You have the option to add on the wine pairing, which I highly recommend.  They have a very educated sommelier which really added to the experience.

While we waited for dinner, we got a chance to experience the rum barista at Nobody Knows Bar.  This was such a fun experience.  We let him pick a few of his favorite cocktails to make for us.  There were 12 of us, so he made 3 different flavors…can you guess what flavor I was lucky enough to grab?  PASSION FRUIT!  I felt so lucky.

It was time for dinner!  I’m a particular eater, so I was a little nervous about the food waste I would have at this dinner.  The portions were small, but VERY filling.  I tried everything, except the fish.  It’s one of those things I’m just never going to like, and I’ve given up trying it.  The standout for me was the pumpkin ravioli, I still think about it months later.

After dinner, we went back over to Pineapple Beach Club to head up to this very cool space called The Outhouse.  It’s a very eclectic looking space with SO much personality.  It’s a bar that serves food, and we were going up there because it was African Heritage night.  Unfortunately, it was raining so it didn’t have a lot of activity happening, but we got to enjoy the vibes while we waited out the rain, and when we arrived, there was an island version of “Kiss the Girl” playing and I was giddy about it.

We wrapped up the night at the Wavy Wicket bar!
