Antigua Trip - Day 7 - Pink Panthers and Rum
Da-dum, da-dum, da-dum, da-dum, da-dum, da, da, da, duuuuuuuummmmmmmmmm – Pink Panther Theme (Henry Mancini)
Today was a day enjoying the island! We got to go on a Pink Panther Island Safari. We had seen their iconic pink jeeps throughout the island, so we were excited to try them out. This company is owned and operated by women, which is super cool.
Our safari included:
A stop at Betty’s Hope – a former sugar planation
A stop at Shirley Heights – so we could explore in the daylight
A stop at Nelson’s Dockyard – shops, museums, views of the shipyard
A Drive through the rainforest like paths and past historic churches
A stop at a beach for a snack and swim
Fabulous drivers that provided us with rum punch, waters, and lots of information
It was a fun journey, but tiring, I nearly fell asleep on the way home. Good thing I had some great company to talk music and random pop culture things on the way home to keep me awake. Upon arriving back at the resort, I went straight to the coffee shop for a refresher for a needed caffeine boost.
Later that night, we had plans to go the Tree House Beach Club restaurant which homes the Pepperpot Rum Shop. I had no idea what to expect, but this was one of the moments I will remember most from this entire Antigua experience. We did a rum tasting on the beach, in one of the coolest venues, with an Ian Burrell (Instagram) masterclass and food crafted to go with the rum by local Chef Andi Oliver (Instagram). I can’t speak enough about this venue, highly recommend it! Pro tip: pack your bug spray. I ended up with about 50 bug bites on each leg even with the bug spray the venue offered me. I now have a tiny bug-spray in my travel bag that will come with me on ALL trips from now on.
We ended the evening at the Wavy Wicket once again and I discovered they had a food menu and that it had chicken strips on it! This is a huge deal for me, because I consider myself a professional chicken strip eater. These had jerk seasoning on them, and they were exactly what I needed at the moment. I couldn’t believe that tomorrow was our last full day in Antigua!
