Fantasia Movie Night Food

Each month while I focus on a movie, I will make a meal that is inspired by it.  I will say my cooking skill level is novice and I am terrified of experimenting with cooking unlike with mocktails and cocktails where I have a lot more confidence.  So, while I’m putting together these movie night menus, I will mostly be utilizing recipes I find online, and I will always link to it so you can see the original source.

Pork Chops with Grape Salsa and Rice:

I chose this recipe because of the Pastoral Symphony segment of the movie as Bacchus, the god of wine and parties.  Since wine comes from grapes, I thought it was a great fit!  This is a recipe that came to me in my first HelloFresh boxes and I didn’t think I’d like grape salsa, but it turned out to be my favorite meal I’ve ever had from them!

Broom Breadsticks:

I was trying to figure out a way to incorporate a broom into this meal, and I was think I’d use pretzel sticks and try to find something to put at the bottom, but all I could think of was cheese and I don’t eat cheese, so I was about to give up on this idea, until my sister sent me this pin: https://pin.it/4EvsmOZJ1

These were delicious and they stayed tasty in the fridge for days and I just warmed them up in the microwave for a few seconds.  I will say I didn’t make them to the exact measurements because I didn’t take the time to flatten the dough out to the right dimensions, but you get the idea!

Tomatoes:

You may notice the tomatoes in my meal photo.  I had the idea to use cherry tomatoes to represent the mushrooms from the Nutcracker sequence, but I couldn’t figure anything to make them stand up like mushrooms other than string cheese (which I’ve already mentioned, I don’t eat).  I added them on the rice for decoration.

Dinosaur Nuggets:

I know this really don’t fit the aesthetic of the rest of this meal, BUT I love a good dino nugget and it is a great nod to the Rite of Spring sequence!

Sorcerer Apprentice Cupcakes:

I had this dessert in mind for MONTHS.  I wasn’t following a recipe for this, so here’s what I did.

  1. Made cupcakes from a box.  I used yellow cake mix.

  2. I made a frosting recipe that I found and used blue food coloring (I chose a lighter blue because no one likes blue teeth after cupcakes).  I highly recommend this frosting, it was so light and delicious.  Recipe here: https://pin.it/6bAlGytdF

  3. I put gold star flakes on the frosting.  I used these: https://amzn.to/4hetswT

  4. I used blue and gold luster dust to color a sugar cone and stuck it on the top.  I used this brand of luster dust:  https://amzn.to/425oFJL

Originally, I was planning to dip the cone in white chocolate and color it for a smoother look, but I tested the luster dust on the cone alone and loved the look so I never ended up using the chocolate dip!
