Antigua Trip - Day 3 - Resort Tour
On an island in the sun
We'll be playing and having fun – Island in the Sun (Weezer)
Today, I began the day by meeting a co-worker for breakfast at “Mario’s” which is a buffet at breakfast time. My morning was made as they had an omelet station and if there’s a place with a customizable omelet station, I’m in! They were out of canned Diet Coke, which is what they serve at this dining location, so I opted for a Mimosa. I wasn’t sad about it.
Today, our big plans were for a classroom session on Sandals and social media, followed by a resort tour. I was happy for the resort tour since I felt a little lost being a day behind everyone else due to my travel snafu (If you missed those details, you can find them here: www.wecanshowyoutheworld.com/blog/cx5al8jdw3fe5uubi6f06e61v0y7xb). I’m glad I finally got to tour a Sandals, because I’ve taken the training many times, but had never personally experienced the properties. I’ve always known that the location of someone’s room can make or break their trip, and after seeing how spread out this property was, I can totally understand that logic. Not all Sandals properties are built the same, but this one felt long especially in the heat of the summer day. The employees were hot too, I guess it’s usually not as humid as it was when we were there, but they had gotten a lot of rain the week prior, and it had been humid ever since.
When we were done, I was ready to eat and sit in some A/C. Unfortunately, they didn’t have any indoor food options for lunch, so we ate at “Barefoot By the Sea” which was on the beach. Don’t worry, while it was outside, it was covered! I got a frozen cocktail, which is not my norm, but I wanted to make sure it was extra cold. It was delicious and the server made it a double for those of us who got it. While we were slightly cooled down, we were all still sweaty from walking around, so we opted to do the pool until dinner time. I really love that they have the option of some seats with tables in the pool outside of the bar top, since the bar is usually full.
Dinner that night was at “Elenor’s” which is a steak and seafood restaurant. This was easily the best meal I’d had at Sandals. I will say it was a slower paced experience, so keep that in mind while dining. I would say that since Sandals in general is a couple’s trip, the restaurants weren’t as used to serving large tables which could have led to wait times for us.
After dinner, we went to check out the gift shop and check out some ice cream and coffee and then decided to end our night at the Drunken Duck. This night there was no karaoke, so it felt much more like an English pub. They did have a food menu available, but we were all still full from dinner, so we just sat and hung out until we were tired. Tomorrow, we will leave Sandals and move to a new resort.
