Snow White Movie Night Menu

Each month while I focus on a movie, I will make a meal that is inspired by it.  I will say my cooking skill level is novice and I am terrified of experimenting with cooking unlike with mocktails and cocktails where I have a lot more confidence.  So, while I’m putting together these movie night menus, I will mostly be utilizing recipes I find online, and I will always link to it so you can see the original source.

Snow White Inspired Meal

Spaetzle:

Snow White is a German story, so my mind immediately went to spaetzle because I enjoy when I go to Biergarten in Epcot, but I’d never made it.  It seemed overwhelming, but it wasn’t so bad once you got into the rhythm of making it, and it was delicious!

This was the size pot I used. I always like to see what tools people used when I’m learning.

What the spaetzle dough looked like before I put it in the water

I bought this contraption to assist me with this recipe. I did use the largest disk for the size and I would use a smaller one next time, no reason except personal preference: https://amzn.to/3ZRAlNZ

Original Recipe: Homemade German Spaetzle Recipe (German Egg Noodles)

Brats:

I’m from Wisconsin and brats are a must have for me and it went so great with the spaetzle.

Pretzel Bites:

I bought pre-made ones from Publix.  The brand I bought was Pretzilla.

Gem Cakes:

My original plan was to do cake pops.  I even had sticks purchased, but I felt like they were so cute without the sticks that I didn’t use them.  I had never made cake pops before so shout-out to my sister for the many calls with questions.

Directions:

1)      Bake cake per box recipe

2)      Wait until cake is full completely cooled. If you don’t, it will melt the frosting.

3)      In a large bowl, mix the cooled cake (crumbled) and a jar of frosting.

4)      Melt candy for the outside of the cake and pour into mold, make sure to get it on the sides of the mold.

5)      Put mold into fridge and wait for it to harden.

6)      Once the candy is hardened, put the cake and frosting mixture into the mold and cover the bottom with more of the candy coating and put back into the fridge to harden.

7)      Optional: Cover with luster dust for sparkle effect.

Ingredients I got from Amazon:

I struggled to find some of the most unique colors in stores around me so I was happy to find on Amazon.

Learnings:

·         Mixing the cake with the frosting is much harder than I thought it would be.  I’ll be prepared to use some muscle next time.

·         Getting the sides of the cake mold with the candy coating wasn’t something I had thought through.

·         I had bought multiple colors of candy for the gems, but I realized it didn’t matter as luster dust completely covered the original candy color anyway.
